Logan Regional at It's Finest

Well what a week we've had. Maizee got really sick at Taylor's basketball game on Saturday and I ended up running her up to the ER. She had a croupy cough, runny nose, and was just plain feeling crappy. She started throwing up and was so lethargic that I paniced and took her up. They looked at her and got off on a tangent about her vomiting. I wasn't concerned about the vomiting as I believed it to be from the phlem from coughing. Well they did everything from xrays to ultrasounds on her tummy to figure out why she was vomiting. They ended up calling it a "virus" and sending her home. I was in Dr. Firth's office this morning with J.R. (story below) and mentioned it to him. He pulled the reports from the ER and about croaked. She has RSV. Would have been great to know. Well she seems to be getting slightly better inspite of the care she recieved at the ER.

And it gets worse. J.R. had a horrible pain in the right side of his stomach that reached around to his back. He started vomiting from the pain at about 2:00 AM. We made it until Dr. Firth was in at 8:30 and he thought it was probably his appendix. So they sent us to the hospital to have a CT scan on his abdomen. Well it wasn't his appendix the little bugger had kidney stones. Dr. Firth called me while we were still at the hospital and told me to stay there that he had arranged for Dr. Larsen to see him and thought they would operate that afternoon. Well we sat in the waiting from for 2 hours waiting for Dr. Larsen to come down and look at him. They wouldn't even give J.R. a bed, a room, any pain meds, or even a bucket to puke in. After the 2 hours I had had it, I threw a fit and they found a cot in a storage closet where he could lay down, not before he puked all over the chairs in the waiting room though. Those of you who have had a baby imagine that pain with no meds or even a bed and the entire waiting room watching you. I was so angry I could have exploded. I finally called Dr. Firth back and explained that we were still in the waiting room, he called and Dr. Larsen finally came down at noon (we got there just after 9:00) and said that he hoped it would pass, wrote an antibiotic prescription and sent him home. Dr. Firth called back at 5:00 to check on J.R. (he's the best doc ever, so glad we have him) and when I told him J.R. was still vomiting and sick he had us call Dr. Larsen back and ask to have J.R. seen. So we did, and he called him in a different prescription (a suppository this time - great fun) and told us to try to make it until 10:00 tomorrow and he would see him then. So that's were we are now. I'll post an update tomorrow, hopefully of a happier J.R. Here is the pic of poor J.R. trying to rest in the waiting room of the hospital for 3 hours.

I am sorry. It can never be just one thing huh. When it rains it poors. So sorry to hear about both sick kids. I hope they both feel better soon. And it is so maddening when you get crappy service at the hospital. JR should have puked on one of the people working there!!!
